nVidia Display settings won't save

I have tried running settings as by running SUDO and I have tried saving the settings to /etc/X11/xorg.conf but everytime I reboot settings revert back to their previous state

 i am just telling you what i did when i had this problem with one of my pc .
i went to system - preference - monitor -[ when the window pops up say no ] - set the screen resolutions to what you want and save . then check xorg settings click save , a window will pop up and say it could not be saved to xorg or some thing click ok then another window will pop up save there .

 this work for me maybe it will work for you .
if not try to remove your nvidia setting then try .
