Nvidia: 10.10 upgrade from 10.04 reboots in terminal mode

Asked by impressing

After upgrading 10.04 to 10.10 my 3rd party Nvidia driver appears to been disabled and 10.10 boots in terminal mode. I am relatively new to Linux and Ubuntu. I am using failsafeX as the only means to use a browser to prepare this question. how do i get normal boot into GUI?

You could try to run following command:
     nvidia-xconfig

i tried this earlier and it failed. I have since de-activated the 3rd party driver. I did so because when i accessed the nvidia x server settings it indicated that the driver was active but was not being used. By using the command you suggested now will I get the ubuntu version?

I don't know. I'm not expert in graphic.I simply noticed this command solves lot of issues on NVidia card.

I linked to xserver-xorg-video-nv. Some people have also issues with 10.10. You could click on this package to read questions of other people and searching a solution inside these ones.

Thanks for your assistance anyway delance. I finally worked out out how to get the generic linux-nvidia driver to work instead in the past few minutes and i can now start in GUI mode at full resolution. Problem solved.
