Grey screen instead of login screen

Asked by Laura Keating

Hi,

I just installed Ubuntu using Wubi. I get the option to choose Vista or Ubuntu when I turn my computer on. If I choose Vista, everything works as normal. If I choose Ubuntu, I see a lot of vertical stripes that blend into a grey screen. This happens whether I choose normal mode or safe mode. My graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce 8600m.

Thanks.

If you boot to recovery root console you can remove the nouveau driver. This should make the OS use the nv driver and it may be a bit better

Hi,
I have currently the same issue, trying to install last wubi version on windows 7 and having a grey screen while choosing Ubuntu on startup.
I don't understand how to fix it. Could help me by giving me more information.
Thank you in advance!
