No Signal on Monitor during login

Asked by Aleister deRais

hai.

Yesterday I decided to install Ubuntu 10.04 after a recommendation from a friend. My computer currently has Windows 7 on it, and I didn't want to lose that so I opted for the dual-boot installation provided off of the Ubuntu website. I ran the installer, it completed and said it worked, I restarted, saw the BIOS, got past it, booted Ubuntu, and then my monitor just went blank, saying that it had No Signal. I could hear the Ubuntu noises in the background if I, say, pressed the backspace key on my keyboard, but I couldn't see anything. I tried it a couple more times, looked online for some answers, couldn't find a solution, and so I opted to uninstall Ubuntu and then try the CD-boot. So, I burned it to a CD, restarted my computer with it in the drive, and it ran perfectly during the test run I did of it running from the CD. I thought to myself it must've just been that installer that wasn't working, so I tried installing it directly from the CD, figuring this time it would work. It didn't, and after restarting after finishing the install and partitioning my drive, it had the exact same problem. I searched on Google and here for a solution, and I couldn't find one as either everyone has a somewhat different issue or nobody solved the issue.

I've been using computers all my life, and I'd like to imagine I have a pretty decent understanding of them, but things like this just confuse me. Any help that could be given in the simplest terms possible would be most appreciated. :)

I have a somewhat-modern PC, with an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT, and I have the latest Windows drivers installed for it. My monitor is an Acer H223H at a 1980x1080 resolution and with a DVI connection.

So recapping, my monitor works perfectly, my computer works perfectly, and it is all fine on Windows 7 and bios, but when I try to boot Ubuntu my monitor has no signal.

Thanks for your help :D
