Screen lockup after upgrade of Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu 10.04 nvidia video card

Asked by Tom Wilson

I let the OS upgrade from Hardy Heron to Lucid Lynx. All went well except it did no see my CDROM. After Login all seems to be there and then at some point the Screen. Mouse and keyboard totally lock.

Is there a way to repair, resolve or reinstall.

Tom

if you restart the x server, is it ok. What video chip do you use?

Restarting X Server just starts again and the same lockup occurs. Nivida is my driver.

I can get to terminal but I do not know enough to proceed.

I suggest you boot to root recovery console and remove the nvidia driver, then boot to a desktop using the nouveau driver to then reinstall the driver.
