Need Ubuntu help, graphics card not configuring

Asked by phil

I have a Geforce 9800 gt and my hardware drivers says i have no proprietary drivers, ( the card is seated in the bus correctly) about a month ago my graphics card ran into this problem out of nowhere and being a newcomer for ubuntu i have just been trying to scavenge the internet for any useful information to help me out. Also, when i access my NVIDIA X server settings a message pops up (You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.) can anyone please help me, It is currently running in low graphics mode and im trying to get my graphics card to full potential
