Hi,

It might be problem with graphic drivers. Ok try this , if you have more than one kernel (OS selection menu) boot from different one. if it works may be kernel problem. if it's not work , Uninstall graphic drivers and test it. if it is not restarting then you should install new graphic drivers.

If above things will not work plz. let me know. I will find other solution.

Good Luck
Bye

Check if you can switch from free/propietary driver.
Remove all Compiz visual effects.
What is your graphic card ?

I am having the same problem. i'm brand new to ubuntu, downloaded and installed latest version as only OS on dell dimension 2350. i love the OS, but after about ten or fifteen minutes, get black screen with flashing UPC-code-like pattern. i don't appear to have any vendor drivers installed, so all drivers came with ubuntu i assume. can you recommend how to install a different driver?

@awanti: Can you also try by booting with previous kernel (third line of Grub boot menu) ?
@David Ransom: I'm not an expert in graphic. Try NVidia driver (in System->Administration->Proprietary Driver). If it fails you could try "Nouveau' driver, which is available in Synaptic, but be careful, if you have problem, I don't know how to restore previous driver...
If awanti succeed with previous kernel, we could try to install it for you.

For both of you, which graphic processor do you use ? Please, awanti, put its name in your question title.

Can you help with this problem?
