Nvidia Graphic driver won't install

Asked by Distant Thunder

Graphic drivers for my Nvidia 9500m GS won't install properly... Jockey is always exiting with an error saying that it couldn't install the driver. However, on reboot, the driver seems to load and to work fine, excepting that i got a very ugly loading screen (looks like the whole screen have been compressed on the top of it, i can see that "something" is happening there, but there're just blue and green lines...) , same thing when i'm doing CTRL+ALT+F1, i can't read anything, but i can distinguish the cursor flashing... I think something is messing up here, i tried to reinstall the so mentioned libvdpau with no improvements, so can you guys help me ? (sorry for bad english if there is, i'm french :p ) :

I've always used the driver from the nvidia-vdpau ppa personally

https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppa

But it may be a case of !wfm

;)

here's what i got :

 dpkg --get-selections | grep libvdpau*
libvdpau-dev install
libvdpau-doc install
libvdpau1 install

and then the jockey log, after it said that it went through an error :

Try installing the driver manually using the following instructions:

http://www.sucka.net/2010/04/how-to-install-nvidia-video-driver-in-10-04-lucid-lynx/

If those instructions don't work, try these (which use the official Nvidia installer):

At this stage : "apt-get install nvidia-current" when trying the method of the first link, i noticed this :
update-alternatives: warning: skip creation of /usr/lib32/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so.1 because associated file /usr/lib32/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so.1 (of link group gl_conf) doesn't exist.
update-alternatives: warning: skip creation of /usr/lib32/libvdpau_nvidia.so because associated file /usr/lib32/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so (of link group gl_conf) doesn't exist. [/g]
and when trying to load the driver , i got this :
modprobe nvidia-current
FATAL: Module nvidia_current not found.
