GL.conf is already managed by gl_conf.backup.20100609

Asked by likeitfast

I get this error when I try to install nvidia-current using synaptic package manager.
I had no problems with using "Hardware drivers" when I first installed ubuntu. but when I started to mess around with switching the drivers I have had problems ever since.

This is also after I tried to restore my old "working" configuration. I had 3d working for my games but didn't have any graphical effects. after the last kernel update I tried to enable it through appearance but it only opened up hardware drivers showing the recommended as installed and in use.
I would like to get my computer back to at least that "working" state Then I swear not to mess with the graphic configurations until lucid goes stable.

The only reason I risked trying to get desktop effects was because I thought back in time would be able to undo all my stupidity. But my working back up did not help.

I appreciate any help. At I would like some back ground in what "... is already managed by .." means in a generic sense.
