ubuntu 14.04, i386, NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 only low screen resolution with Nouveau

Dear experts,

I have an old PC with Ubuntu 14.04 (i386) and with the old NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 graphic card.

Unfortunately, there is no more support with proprietary nvidia-96 drivers for this Ubuntu distro, so I have to use this xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package.

However, after installing the nouveau driver, I got only the lowest screen resolution, plus very slow unity graphics environment.

Is there a remedy for such a situation ?

Use the Unity 2 D session. It is selectable from the login page.
