Acer X173W resolution problem

Asked by Talea

I recently installed ubuntu 9.10 and my screen resolution for the acer worked perfectly (1440X900 @ 60Hz) then the computer had frozen and when I rebooted the screen resolution decreased to 800X600. I tried changing settings but somehow ubuntu does not pick up either the type of monitor or the correct resolution. I have re-installed ubuntu 9.10 once and now have kubuntu 9.10 installed. Same problem - Is there a solution I can use without having to reinstall again?

I wish Intel would make a nice GUI to configure video like nvidia have. I simply refuse to buy a system without nvidia vga for this reason.

Intel VGA is very supported and the drivers are top notch but unfortunately configuring the system to use them is god awful.

Looks like its a known bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/374310

This sppears to happen when a new release comes out. Guess you will just have to hang until intel get their act together. Keep that bug bookmarked and keep your ear to the ground.

Can you help with this problem?
