graphic resolution with karmic and Intel845G chip. This worked fine with 915resolution in 9.4, it does not now.

Asked by Robrist

upgrade form 9.4 to 9.10. Intel 845G graphics chip in a Dell dimension. Under Jaunty I worked at 1024x768, now I only get 800x600. The package 915resolution was necessary to adapt resolution in jaunty, it is not available in the repositories for 9.10. How can I solve that problem?
Thanks
robrist

Here is an xorg.conf you can use. You will need to create the file yourself:

Thanks, but I am afraid that this beyond my capabilites. I am just a user, without any specific programming knowledge, therefore not able to edit this file in a useful way.
Are there any easier ways?

You simply need to run:

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and copy the file you see in the link to the file, save it and reboot.

This does not require any programming knowledge at all. Do not be afraid of guides just because the language they use is not in plain english.

well I did as you said, with no effect. I also tried to insert
xrandr --output VGA --modew 1024x768 into gdm.conf (or rather custom.conf in the gdm folder), without any effect.
Any more ideas would be wellcome...

Starting up today, the problem was solved - dont ask me why. The xorg.conf file is in place as you suggested.
Thanks a lot
