[i965] Intel GM965/GL960 regression in Jaunty RC

Asked by Amr Hassan

I was a very happy intrepid user, everything was working out-of-the-box.

After installing Jaunty RC last night, I noticed that the performance with compiz effects is a bit sluggish.
After installing the new updates this morning, I found out that compiz blacklisted my graphics card and I lost my compositing.

For the performance issue, I had to install xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4, and for restoring my compositing I had to skip compiz's blacklist check and then reloading the window manager twice after each reboot from fusion-icon to get my compiz effects and compositing back.

Adding Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" to my xorg.conf made the graphics unstable, and Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" made minor performance improvement but not as much as that I get with downgrading to driver 2.4.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1525 and this is my graphics card: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

They've blacklisted the card until this bug gets resolved: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/359392/

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/363540 for a workaround if you want compiz and you're not suffering from the bugs.

Hi amr-hassan,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
