i think karmic xserver-xorg-video-intel update broke x on intel 915

Asked by mr.c.d

I think karmic xserver-xorg-video-intel update broke x on my intel 915 laptop.
I ran the update and I think I saw this package in the list... having rebooted, I'm in 800x600, and getting some serious screen flicker :/... I've never reported a bug before, and I'm quite new to Linux. I'm more than willing to contribute, but i need step-by-step breakdowns, sorry ... hopefully together we can sort this out :) the version i now have installed is 2:2.7.1-1ubuntu1.

Karmic is still in the early stages of development and can be expected
to break frequently. If you want to report your bug against Karmic,
detailed directions can be installed here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

Essentially, you will want to run the following commands:

ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel

If you want a stable operating system, I would recommend backing up
your data and installing Ubuntu 9.04.

Thankyou, I will report the bug from the command line as you requested.

I realise that karmic is still in alpha stages, that's why i'm running it! I've no need for a stable operating system for a good few months, so i thought the least i could do to repay ubuntu is run the development version to help it progress smoothly.

Keep up the good work! :)
