monitor unknown can't change resolution

Hi
Basically the problem is that i can't change the resolution, and in monitor preferences, doesn't detect the monitor it sais that is unknown

I manually wrote "600x800" in the xorg.conf to test if i was able to change the resolution, but didn't work.
I have ubuntu 10.04.03

Support for Ubuntu 10.04 will expire in a few months from now.

I suggest testing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in a LiveCD session. If the monitor works fine in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, then I suggest performing a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

If similar problems occur in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, then I suggest sending us the full Terminal output of the command in the following procedure:

Actually i use backtrack 5 r3 And is based in that ubuntu version :/
