Graphics driver for VAIO laptop

Asked by William Pabon

A few days ago I requested help to configure windows settings and animations, because of the absence of compiz on Unity. Question 204881 was promptly answered, which resulted on installing My Unity. I was expecting to get my wobbly windows and the like, but it didn't happen. I checked the driver installed by Ubuntu: Details > Graphics and I obtained Diver = Unknown, Experience =Standard. I assume that this says that the OS installed a default driver for my laptop. I checked if the graphics hardware was recognized and, yes it was as follows.

   *-pci
          description: Host bridge

          bus info: pci@0000:00:00.0
          version: 03
          width: 32 bits
          clock: 33MHz
          configuration: driver=agpgart-intel
          resources: irq:0
        *-display:0
             description: VGA compatible controller
product: Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller
             vendor: Intel Corporation
             physical id: 2
             bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
             version: 03
             width: 32 bits
             clock: 33MHz
             capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
             configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
             resources: irq:16 memory:dc100000-dc17ffff ioport:1800(size=8) memory:c0000000-cfffffff memory:dc200000-dc23ffff
        *-display:1 UNCLAIMED
             description: Display controller
product: Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller

Are there any particular graphics driver in the repositories that would work with the above graphics card?
Thanks.

There is compiz in Ubuntu, even in Quantal. Do you dual boot the system?

Andrew:
I'm not sure what you are asking. If what you are asking is that I have dual OSes, the answer is yes. I have windows and Ubuntu. If that is not it, please explain.

Compiz settings manager is not installed by default in Ubuntu 12.04, I found out. After installing the app, I was able to configure my wobbly windows.
