system hangs when adjusting brightness

i have inspiron N15 laptop, i5 520 processor ,intel integrated HD graphics, whenever i try to adjust brightness , ubuntu12.04 hangs.

Try:

sudo /usr/bin/xbacklight -set 75

Does it change?

sudo: /usr/bin/xbacklight: command not found

sudo apt-get install xbacklight

Will give the command
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents&keywords=xbacklight&mode=exactfilename&suite=precise&arch=any

Then retry

  it does change brightness, but the problem still persists. It still Hangs if i try to adjust it by hotkey and brightness and lock menu in the All setting menu. Will i have to always change brightness by terminal.
