Ubuntu 10.04 GUI crashing with vertical lines

Asked by vsp on 2012-06-28

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is crashing when switching between GUI and terminal (tty-1).

The GUI screen freezes and alternating vertical lines and other random graphics appear on the screen and complete un-responsive to any input. Cntl+Alt+Del works sometimes by restarting.

Installed on a P4 box with 1gb ram - 845intel board.

Kindly let me know what logs need to be retrieved post crash restart

Regards,
Vsp

Why install Lucid, it is EOL in April next year giving 10 months support. If you install Precise you will get just under 5 years support.

Why such an old release?

Well Andrew, fair thought, but I am waiting on the latest LTS version to pop-up on the update manager.

Anyways, did notice in the log repeated ehci_hcd port errors which loops...

Did an unbind based on what I say on a different forum. Switch now looks ok.

Will hang on until then.

Ok, looks like the problem persists, blank screen alternating with vertical lines in the top half of the screen when I left is locked for a while.

I could not see a workarround on this.

May be you should open a bugreport and handle it there. But at this time it will be hard to get someones attention on this. It is like actionparnship intended, because the main part of the people are looking on quantal development and precise fixing.

The update notification in 1.04 to 12.04 is planned for 2012-08-23 (in moment).

When you will upgrade more to now, a installation cd/dvd(look for the correct version) will properly do the job, but backup first!
