Compiz & Unity conflict

Asked by Michael Allen

HP G7-1310us with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 running 11.10.

I want to be able to enable the cube and use the unity dock or at least properly disable unity and use the older desktop with the cube.

Whenever I enable the cube it works with no problem but I lose the unity dock on the side and I can not reach any of the other functions along the top of the screen.

Can anyone help me issue?

Usually you can't use the cube.
But you can try to follow this:

Nothing dramatic, you need to enable the unity plugin again.
Either open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
and run compizconfig-settings-manager:
ccsm

Or logout and login to unity-2d and enable the plugin from there.

I don't know why this hasn't been working for me so far. I have done this a million times and the dock and desktop just wouldn't function properly. As soon as I post it in a forum it starts working. I guess I just had to tell everyone my computer was acting crazy for it to get embarrassed and start working right. My computer is just tempermental.
