After loading the latest kernel updates intel embedded graphics video is a blank screen

Asked by James Swiatek

After loading the latest kernel drivers the intel 915 series driver and display on my Dell e6410 Laptop is blank.. Luckily i can attach an external monitor which works. The difference is the external monitor is using a different driver.

Is there a way to recover the internal laptop screen which is driven by the intel 915 driver?

Please advise on options to recover..

My work around is boot hold the shift key and select previous kernel 3.0.0.14 which works just fine.
So its definitely kernel 3.0.0.15 which has the intel video issue....

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; echo; dpkg -l | grep inetl

Thanks

Perhaps a regression from latest linux-image-3.0.0-15-generic which incl. several i915 patches.
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/l/linux/linux_3.0.0-15.25/changelog

If possible boot from the previous 3.0.0-14 kernel, to view boot menu press [Shift]-key, select previous kernel and press [Enter].

To report a regression against 3.0.0-15 it actually needs to be booted, not sure if it makes much sense though when the other monitor uses a different driver.

Hi,

i have the same issues but for me it is a black screen... It comes after a upgrade of kernel from 3.0.0-14 to 15
I have a DELL Latitude e6510. Here is the result of lsb_release -a; uname -a; echo; dpkg -l | grep inetl :

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10
Codename: oneiric
Linux afrezet-Latitude-E6510 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:34:47 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

If i switch to 3.0.0-14, it works fine. I had a the same problem with Ubuntu 9.x, but it has been fixed in 10.x and it reappears now.

Thanks

Did you try removing the driver and reinstalling it as the later kernel?
