Ubuntu 11.10 intel graphic card problem

Asked by Abbas Ali

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" two days ago. I am using Ubuntu for two year in office and home. It works well and I have never got problem. But after installing new version I have got few problems. Unity starts with 2D whereas there was very good graphics in Natty. I think Oneiric did not install correct motherboard driver for graphics. I don't know how to fix this problem. One more thing that there is no option to change background and emblems in Nautilus file manager. Anyway, output of the command <lshw -C display> from my computer is as below:
 *-display:0
       description: VGA compatible controller
product: 82Q35 Express Integrated Graphics Controller
       vendor: Intel Corporation

       width: 32 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
       configuration: driver=i915 latency=0

Kindly sort out my problem and give any solution if possible. I will be very grateful.

You may need an xorg.conf file. The 8xxx intel chips are not great and prone to lockups due to them being picky about timings.

You need to create a xorg.conf configuration file under the /etc/X11/ directory from terminal type

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and put some content you can find by reading the already answered questions here:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel

or by searching on google...
