Display issues with 11.10

Asked by endamurtagh@hotmail.com

Problem 1
On my launcher, half my icons all look the same, the only ways to distinguish them is to move the mouse over them.

Problem 2
the shut down icon is missing from the top right of my screen, but when i move the mouse to top right and force it off the screen i get my option. i have tried re seizing the display, but it has made no difference.

Problem 3
In the system settings folder, there are no icons on display for most of the options.

apart from that, its all good so far.

I have the same issue:
Acer Inspire 5630 laptop; Intel 940 Graphics chip
Unity
Updated from11.04
Not tried 2D yet as I am now at work.

The 11.10 beta in a Virtualbox VM on a different machine did not exhibit these problems

I have found a work-around that works for me:
Right click on background.
Select Change background image.
Then, change the theme in bottom right hand corner of the Appearence dialogue,
then change it back and exit
The cog PowerMenu re-appeared and has remained through log-off/on and a reboot.
