Dell Laptop Hangs on Boot Sometimes with Natty

Asked by Bill

Since upgrading to Natty (11.04) I have experienced intermittent hangs on boot up. Before the splash screen it just stops at a blinking "-". Two versions back never did this. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1405 with an "Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940 GML Express ...Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03)".

I have searched various logs and found no clues. I suspect an X freeze but this does not appear to be covered by the Lucid8xxFreezes article in the Wiki. The hang ups are about 2 out of 3 boots on battery and seem to occur less often on AC power.
