Graphical corruption

Asked by Joao

Sometimes the desktop just starts drawing a bunch of displaced rectangles. I also get the same kind of corruption in some images on firefox.
I haven't figured out the cause since it seems to be triggered a while after bootup . For a few hours I see no rendering bugs. Rebooting fixes all the corruption.

Yeah thought it was one of those. They are notorious for misbehaving. They are incredibly touchy when it comes to timings and lock up/cause issues if things don't run 100% perfectly.

You may want to try adding the boot option:

nomodeset

May help.

After I added this boot option when I try to login it says that my hardware can't support unity and logs me into the classic desktop
Is this normal?

The chip should support Unity and 3D accelleration. I'd remove the option. You could try the xorg edgers ppa but its VERY experimetal and may break things.
