unable to change monitor settings V11.04, Compaq S1922a

Asked by Joanne Hook

Monitor working fine, in most regards, but when I click on the monitor widget in the preferences, I get a box showing "Monitor Unknown", the correct native resolution and a "0" refresh rate and it will not allow me to change any settings.

You don't need a screenshot. It's TEXT. you can copy the text and paste it here as an update. Why do you need a screenshot?

OK... I see... I have to use the edit function of the terminal to copy text - cntl C will not work in this terminal

Pardon my lapses, but this is my first time here and I am still working through Linux for Dummies, am vision impaired and mobility impaired.

Thank you for your help, as frustrating as I may be.

You can use CTRL+SHIFT + C as a shortcut to copy.

Is the system a banded PC or laptop which you are connecting to the screen. The screen is a plug and play thing and will display what it is told.

A PC connected via the VGA DSB connector. An older Pentium 4 @2.4 Ghz with 2GHz memory. I am also running V10.10 on my laptop and no problems with the same type of monitor. Just upgraded the desktop, via download and this is the first time I've seen anything like this. Click and drag are not quite the same on the mouse, but I have been able to improve it a bit by adjusting the mouse settings. My primary concern is that it is telling me a refresh rate of 0 so I have no idea of exactly what the refresh rate actually is. I find this a bit disconcerting, to say the least.

I'm going to list this as problem solved, but it would appear that the applet needs a bit of tweaking to at least display the actual refresh rate instead of a 0. Thanks for your help and patience.
