Natty (unstable) Only can login using Ubuntu Classic (No Effects)

Asked by Edward Kluk

When I login in using either Ubuntu or Ubuntu Classic, everything looks OK. As soon as I click on anything, every windows or pull-down, they just blink on for a half a second and then disappear. What is left in its the area that the display should have occurred is part of the image that is at the login screen. My Ubuntu has been working well for over a year. I just did the upgrade to 10.10. There is no way to make it work correct except to power the computer down.

I have tried several ideas from other questions but none have worked.

I have a Hp/Compaq d530 Desktop with 256 MG of RAM. The monitor is a Dell Flatscreen. I would have to go to the ROM to get more information about the computer.
