Installation of IBM 9516-B23 16" Monitor

Asked by Boris Hörhager

I would like to install my IBM 9516-B23 16" Monitor on Ubuntu 10.10.
1024x768 is the only resolution listed.
The recommended resolution is 1280x1024.
I'm using an IBM Netvista 8305-41G for Ubuntu.

Please be patient with a Windows-guy... ;)

Greetings Boris

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C display

The monitor is plug and play so does not need any sort of drivers. The video card however will not be configured so is giving the resolution you see.

The Output is:
################################################################
*-display
description: VGA compatible controller
product: 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device
vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2
bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
       version: 01
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
resources: irq:16
memory:88000000-8fffffff
memory:80000000-8007ffff
################################################################
It is an integrated Video Card by Intel called "845G" by IBM.
There are no specific Linux drivers for this card by IBM and I do not want to use it for 3D-construction or games, it should be a simple workstation, but the resolution of 1024x768 is irritating on that screen.
Thanks for your help!

ok these thins have a massive bug which can be worked around. They are really touchy with timings and can lock up.

This may help:
