Intel 82845g ubuntu 10.04
I am new to Ubuntu and I am trying to enable video effects to normal. I have Aopen motherboard with Intel 82845g integrated video graphics. I am new so I have tried to follow some post on web with no luck. So is this possible to work or am I needing to replace with new video card.

* What do you mean by "normal"?
* Can you get to a graphical interface?
* Are you running from a liveCD/USB or from an install?

I mean in the visual effect category there is none, normal, and extra and my
pc stays on none. when I search for drivers it says none and I have
integrated intel. I ran the liveCD to install Ubuntu fully on my pc and
wiped windows off. And yes I am on the desktop now tried updating GUI says
up to date.

OK, if I undertand correctly, you are trying to enable 3D desktop effects? If so, can you provide the output of the following terminal command (to open a terminal, Ctrl+Alt+T, or from applications menu)?

The command I gave above was to get info on your system only, it does not have any other effect.
Open a terminal, and try this
mkdir -p ~/.config/compiz/ && echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes >> ~/.config/
-- How I came up with that --
The command I gave previously was to get the full device name for your graphics card. By searching for :
http://
I found this:
http://
which showed me SKIP_CHECKS
which brought me to : http://

Note, from the compiz page:
NOTE: Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 no longer uses compiz-manager and has patched their version of compiz to include all checks into the compiz binary without a way to bypass them. While most of the checks are there for a good
So, it is being disabled because your graphics card driver does not fully support it. As it says, if you are running >=10.04, then you will need to go a step further to bypass this lock. Note that bypassing it may cause rendering errors, as presumably there is a reason it is being blacklisted.

Just to clarify, please read the bit I posted:
>NOTE: Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 no longer uses compiz-manager and has patched their version of compiz >to include all checks into the compiz binary without a way to bypass them. While most of the checks >are there for a good
If you want to bypass this, you will need to manually modify the compiz package
https:/
Some hints on getting started are available here:
http://
You will need to look at their patches (probably debian/patches/) to remove the check.

you may want to look at
linuxhcl.org
this is a community based database which gives scores for different hardware. Look for ones that are labelled as working out of the box with ubuntu.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask joseph sallee for more information if necessary.
