Unable to reset display size after change to 10.10

I recently upgraded to 10.10 and have had no problems other than am now unable to change the size of the monitor display. i had a selection between two sizes on the old version of Ubuntu.

Could you provide more information, like the video card you are using, monitors, etc. Also what resolutions do you get, and what resolutions are you missing?

Monitor is a Samsung Synchmaster 170MP
1280x1024 is currently running. I would like to run it at about 1000 wide.

Reviewing the monitor it is a standard VGA 17", and 1280 x 1024 is max.

Given that this is onboard video/Intel chipset you may consider the BIOS options to see if this fixes your issue, or if you need to modify the xorg properties. Compare your xorg with the one listed.

I've been using the current screen size for several weeks now, and have gotten used to it. I don't think I would change back now even if I could. Funny how things sometime work themselves out.
