Set screen resolution on ubuntu 10.10

Hello, i am new to linux.

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 in my p4 pc.

it is working very nice.

now the problem is that i cannot set the screen resolution to 1024 x ---

recently i used windows, and i could set in it.

please help me set the resolution and also please guide me about where i can see if my drivers are installed properly or not.

Did you go to System -> Preferences -> Monitors?

Does your your resolution appear there?

please tell the video card do you have...

From terminal type:

lspci | grep -i vga

copy and paste the result here

yes i went to monitors but under the resolution list, i am not able to set
the resolution.

also please help me how to find whether my video driver is installed
properly or not.

where do i check all the drivers installed into the pc?? as like device
manager in windows.

In Linux most drivers come with Linux itself and don't require installation. See if ubuntu has some 3rd party drivers available: connect to the Internet and go to System -> Administration -> Additional drivers.
It may suggest some ATI or Nvidia drivers.
Otherwise, tell us what video controller you have there.
