Version of UMS-compatible driver for Maverick?

Asked by Philip

I'm having issues with my external monitor, when it's connected via VGA, where the external monitor shakes. I'd like to try the older (2.9?) version of xserver-xorg-video-intel to see if I can run it with kernel mode setting turned off. Any advice on how to get that going? (The Lucid package fails to install; I'm returning to Linux after a 8-year hiatus.)

The machine in question is a Thinkpad T410s with integrated Intel i915 graphics.

Thanks.
