Compiz effects not functioning at all in Maverick beta, w/ Intel 855 card

Asked by Raymond P

Hello
My Compiz effects are not working at all after upgrading from Lucid 10.04 LTE to Maverick beta. In Lucid, I had no problems with Compiz whatsoever.

Here's what I've tried:
1. In Appearance properties, the default desktop/visual effects setting was on 'None'. The system will not allow me to enable ANY desktop effects.
2. I've tried enabling compiz --replace in a terminal window, but it keeps 'falling back' to my default composite manager.
3. I've also removed and reinstalled compiz.

My CCSM and Simple Compiz managers are installed and functioning properly. I'm using a Dell 700m with an Intel 855GM graphics card.

As a newbie myself, any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if you'd like me to provide any more details.

Thanks!

You may need an xorg.conf file to define better display settings. I suggest you also log a bug:

ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel

Will start the ball rolling. Remember, Maverick is in beta so is not stable and not ready for the masses.

Yep, I'd report a bug as regression if it worked in Lucid.
Seems to be round #2 for 8xx issues.

If possible link the bug number here (see interface 'Link existing bug'), that others which come up with the same issue may follow the progress.

I am experiencing the same problem with similar configuration.

Dell Optiplex GX260... using same onboard graphics

Compiz will not allow Desktop effects to be activated.

Thanks.
