Ubuntu 10.04 live cd regression with video card Intel 855G the extreme craphics 2 chipset on Toshiba Satellite A55-S1063 model laptop

Asked by LSL

Ubuntu 9.10 livecd will load and run fine on my Toshiba Satellite A55-S1063 model laptop, but the 10.04 Livecd will get to plymouth, and then just go black. How would I go about reporting this as a bug, and what information could I even include or look for to find what the issue is? I am good with C, but I wouldn't know what packages to even start looking at for this.

As your not making into the the OS, the new methods are obviously out the window.

I would go to: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Filing%20a%20bug%20with%20ubuntu-bug

And put as much information as you can about your system:

OS: Distribution / Date / Info
System:
Model:
Chipset:
GPU:
NIC
Etc:

and Describe the when / where is fails. I know its hard to capture when its at install as have a similar issue on my D400.

The black screen at or after boot is being reported across many laptop & desktop systems. There are fixes for some, but not all that are being reported. I have tried 10.10 (The current daily releases) and have had some success (at least getting past Boot & install), but as expected, there are other things still being resolved.

Hey thanks for the quick response! I ended up finding out though that it was because of the Intel card (Intel 855G the extreme craphics 2 chipset), and so as soon as it would try to load X it would just fail, which is why I assume the 9.10 livecd worked alright since kernel 2.6.31 seemed to be alright with that video adapter. Using 2.6.31 under Lucid worked, or using the i8XX workarounds on the Ubuntu wiki turned out to solve my issue. What I ended up doing was just installing 9.10, and doing the manual upgrade to Lucid. Thanks again though!
