No mouse after login after ugrading to Ubuntu 10.4 LTS

 I have the same problem, but it was a upgrade from 8.04. it was there until I changed the resolution. I'm running off the lived cd now since it's the only way to get the cursor to work somewhat. I tested ti see if it would do the same in the Live-CD enviroment and it does.

Hi Jonathan,
When you mentioned resolution I thought I would check mine. It was set for the highest resolution so I lowered it until I got to 832x600. I now have my arrow back and thank you for your help. Of course, at this resolution things are pretty big on the monitor. I will hope that the next update to this version will see a correction to the problem. I never had any problem upgrading to previous versions of Ubuntu and I have been using the highest resolution on those without problem. I am not that savvy to try and fix this. I can live with this resolution because I have the cursor back.

Thank you for your suggestion. Another member helped me by mentioning resolution. I checked mine which was set to the highest one and I lowered it one at a time and I found the cursor at 832x624. I am not knowledgeable enough to try and fix this myself. Hopefully, someone will and it will be in a later update.

You can add the option:
Option "HWCursor" "true"

In the video card section of xorg.conf and it may help.

I am calling this problem solved. I really feel uncomfortable in trying to fix this problem especially after reading solutions at different sites like Linux.com. Thank you both for helping. I can live with Ubuntu at the lower resolution. I do have the cursor visible now. Someone with more experience may fix it or it will be fixed in the next big upgrade.

Unfortunately I'd though I try lowering the resolution, but to no avail
it didn't bring it back for me at a lower resolution. I was emailed a
different solution I thing I might check out, and see what happens. I'll
keep ya posted it has a positive impact.

I wouldn't call it solved until it truly is fixed. Also to not I'm running an integrated Intel card. I popped in a Karmic lived-CD, and it's not an issue there so this is unique to Lucid. I;ma a mechanic by trade, and I don't leave things half done on any vehicle. I apply the same concept to any problem that comes up.

Well I tried a few things, and it's an Intel graphics issue again. Then the
real problems started with Windows running. The GPU is fried now, and I'm
tracking down another motherboard.

I have the same problem after upgrading to 10.4. Never had a problem with any of the previous ubuntu distrbutions. I can get the cursor to display with sudo lshw -C display, but that is only a temp solution since it goes away anytime I reboot. Also, it seems that all my screensavers mess up the video as well. The screen just goes black and I have to reboot the machine.

The output from lshw -c display is below:

That'd be great but since I posted my issues with the bug my onboard
graphics burned up. And my pc is running headless for the time being.

This might be related to the bug #492782

Can you bring the mouse back by switching to the console and back with Ctrl+Alt+F1 Ctrl+Alt+F7?

I ended up having to switch some hardware different mobo, and processor went
from Intel graphics to nvidia, and haven't had the same issue.
