i845 and kms

I have an Intel 845G graphic chipset. When booting with KMS enabled, the monitor gets some unsupported resolution and starts blinking (when I press Ctrl+Shift+F1 the console interface works fine). The only way get the graphic interface working is disabling KMS... but, what can I do if KMS can't be disabled in latest driver releases???

Creating the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and setting the appropriate resolutions, monitor frequencies, etc, can solve the problem.
