I am still experiencing this problem.... unable to get X to run without passing i915.modeset=0 and using the vesa driver. Intel driver won't run regardless of what I do. Running maverick with latest packages on an HP TM2 with core i3/Intel HD graphics.

It doesn't look like xserver-xorg-video-intel has been updated in quite a while, not sure why some aren't having a problem anymore.
