Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report and subsequently we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. Hi

What graphics chipset do you have? If you don't know, run the following command in a terminal window, and paste the output here. The system will ask for your password, type it in and press enter even though you won't see anything while typing the password, it is ok.

sudo lshw -C display

good luck

In your xorg.conf you need to add
VideoRam = 15000
or how much in KB you want it to use... look in the forums or ask back if you have questions.

The chipset used is Intel® 946GZ Express Chipset, and the driver is Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3000 (Intel® GMA 3000). Thanks

To set how much memory the graphics card uses, put:
VideoRam 15000
In the Device section of xorg.conf, where 15000 is the number of KB that you want it to use.
This won't really improve resolution necessarily, but giving it more RAM may make graphics tasks faster.
