ATI Graphics Drives Stopped Working

Asked by Robert Phillips

I have been using Ubuntu for a few months now and it's great. OpenGL and the 3D card were working perfectly and I had some great desktop effects going on. However, I don't know exactly what I did but I think I installed the ATI binary X.org driver using the software centre as I thought I might need it. Now all my desktop effects are gone and OpenGL no longer works. Even if I uninstall the X.org driver the default drivers do not work. How do I re-enable or re-install the default ATI Drivers that were working before my tinkering.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers and check if there is your video card active.

Or you can Download Envy NG http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html and reinstall the driver for your ATI.

Envy NG is an application which allows you install ATI drivers easily.

Thank you for your response. I tried those things and more but nothing worked. I'll get the hang of it eventually I suppose. Anyway, I solved the problem by just re-installing Ubuntu from scratch and now 9.10 works great again.

Cheers,
Robert.
