Computer freezes after selecting ubuntu from bootloader

Asked by Cornel Les on 2012-11-26

Hello,

I've install ubuntu 12.04 and after I try to load ubuntu from bootloader my computer freezes either on a purple screen or a black screen with a blinking cursor (the ubuntu load page doesn't appear), reset button is not working.
This is a random encounter, lets say from 5 reloads one will freeze my computer.
I have windows 7 for 3 years and it never freezes my computer. I really enjoy ubuntu, could someone suggest me how can I debug this problem?

Computer specs.
Intel i5-650 on a Asus P7H55-M with 2 DIM's of CORSAIR CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 and a video card ATI Radeon HD 5770.

I did install the ati drivers the correct way:

What Windows does or doesn't do is of near zero significance. It is a completely different OS with completely different support.

You CPU has an Intel GPU inside, then you have your ATI card. This cases all kinds of hell in Linux. You may find that the boot option:

nomodeset

Helps but you will find the OS struggles. If you can disable the Intel GPU in BIOS then do it and it will help a lot.

Ok, so I tried nomodeset and the problem persist. I looked into BIOS and I couldn't find how to disable the Intel GPU, just how to set "Initiate Graphic Adapter" and is set to [PGE/PCI] and there is an iGPU option which is not set.
I boot ubuntu using "Advanced option for Ubuntu" and it stops at "Loading initial RAM disk".
I've excluded a hardware problem because when loading windows I have no problem.

Any other way how to debug this?

I've started ubuntu in recovery mode and I notice that it stops at something about the DVD, so I've disconnected the DVD from the motherboard and not I didn't get any more computer freeze.

Here is a screenshot of console output where computer freezes:
