Need video display driver

Asked by Frank

I recently removed the wubi (32-bit) installation from my Windows XP desktop and installed 64 bit Ubuntu for real, but noticed that, while under wubi, the “Graphics” section of the System Settings | Details line showed “VESA:RS780”, it now appears as “Unknown.”

I looked in the Software center, and the “X.Org X server – VESA display driver” is checked as installed.

Am I missing out on anything? And, if so, how do I fix it.

Based on some postings, the following information may be useful:
The command [sudo lshw -C display] gives:
  *-display
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: RS780L [Radeon HD 3000]
       vendor: Hynix Semiconductor (Hyundai Electronics)
       physical id: 5
       bus info: pci@0000:01:05.0
       version: 00
       width: 32 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
       configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
       resources: irq:18 memory:d0000000-dfffffff ioport:ee00(size=256) memory:fdff0000-fdffffff memory:fde00000-fdefffff

The command [lsb_release -a
] gives the following:
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

Any comments would be appreciated.

Uhh. I guess after reading all of the post referenced, I'll just leave everything the way it is. But thanks for trying.
