Distorted Gnome Shell on Ubuntu 11.10

Menus and titles of Gnome 3 shell are displayed distorted (Ubuntu 11.10). Proprietary AMD drivers are installed.
My hardware: HP-625 with AMD Athlon II Dual-Core P360 and ATI Radeon HD 4200.

I had significant corruption with the AMD proprietary drivers that are installed via jockey-gtk. When I removed these and installed the drivers from the AMD website, everything started working correctly.
