Problem with support of OpenGL on my graphical card

Asked by Ming Gao

Hi, I am using ATI Radeon X1400 card on Ubuntu Natty.

I have installed the opensource driver for the graphical card following the instructions on:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver#Problem : %20%20Need%20to%20fully%20remove%20-fglrx%20and%20reinstall%20-ati%20from%20scratch.

But it seems the opengl

is not supported, as when I type "glxinfo" in the terminal, I get the information:

"Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0". Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig".

So is it because this card can not get support of opengl, or is there anything I have made incorrectly?

On the other hand, the proprietary driver for this card (Catalyst 9.3) does not support the current version of Ubuntu or Xorg.

Thus I look forward to getting help from the community, thanks!

Hi there,
I've also got an ATI X1400 (don't like it)+natty.

Did you install xserver-xorg-video-ati? In my case, the card works out-of-the-box with the free driver, while fglrx shows problems.

In http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/ATI/radeon, they suggest:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-video-radeon xserver-xorg-core
