ATI driver issues + compiz (HD4250)

Asked by ixez

Hello everybody!
I'm runnig ubuntu 11.10 with gnome and just installed 8.911 ATI proprietary driver.
Everything works but seems buggy and slow. I tried to turn off Vsync and other tweaks - nothing helped. Also installed older versions of ATI drivers.

How could I reinstall or roll back to open source drivers? What is the command?
I have a Radeon HD 4250 chip and hope to run compiz on my laptop but it doesn't work on open source driver :/

Help me, please.

Maybe try this.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver

No issues with 4200, 4350 and open source driver here, btw. never activated proprietary driver.
4250 seems to be a culprit.

Seems to work on pre-installed only.
