page load wont' automatically fit 42" screen res.1280X720

can't find my cd for ati radeon 4670,so my my LCD tv 40" won't fit the page being loaded,always too big.My fedora 14 has no problem as i can download driver for ATI. I have RES at 1280x720
Ubuntu does not let me load driver.i need to to have res, at 1400x900 to fit all icons and page to fit inside my screen.Need this size so i can see without strain.
Icons can be barely seen on my screen top almost disappearing have to play with mouse to find shut down and minimized windows,beginning to be annoying.regards Marc
