ubuntu 11.04 won't sync with monitor

try to install and monitor says out of sync range(its an old crt monitor)

It has an ATI ultra rage 128 16mb

ok then add the boot option:

nomodeset

the monitor is from winme days the one I had worked but died this is a temp one.thnx anyway

Try booting to recovery root mode with networking and run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade; sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

I assume you have a web connection, may help
