Booting from USB only gives a black screen

Asked by Austin Cooperrider

This is the first time i am trying to use Ubuntu.
When i am booting from a USB on my labtop (using desktop version 10.10) after i choose the usb as my boot device all i get is a black screen with 2 viritcal lines of green and blue. I can hear in the background the start up music of Ubuntu but i see nothing.

My specks are as follow:
 Dell Inspiron 1501
AMD Turion 64 1.8 GHz
2 gig ram
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150

Thanks for the help
