No Video in Lucid with ATI 5800

Asked by Wyatt Smith

I can't boot Lucid Live CD to install.

Boot process is normal till gdm login, then screen goes blank. I think this is a driver issue. I think the drivers that come with Lucid don't work with ATI 5800 cards.

Can anyone help with a workaround for this. What is easiest way to fix?

Patch LiveCD?
Debootstrap?

Please help with any insight, which wil allow me to install.

Thanks,
Wyatt

Can some tell how I can patch the LiveCD with the proper drivers so I can install.

Been a while since I have been here, so I suppose I should close this item out.

The solution was:

Install with the alternate CD
On first boot select recovery console.
From root terminal install the latest ati drivers.
Then start X.
