I'm also seeing this issue on my machine. Monitor signal is lost when login screen appears (I can see the Ubuntu logo flashing just before).

My system:
Ubuntu 10.04, 64-bit
CPU: Intel i5 760
MOBO: Asus P7P55D LE
GPU: ATI 5750-based PowerColor GoGreen-card (pci-express)
MEM: 2x2 GB Corsair at 1333 MHz
HD: 80 GB SSD X-25 G2
PSU: 750W Corsair
DISPLAY: 24" BenQ, using DVI connection between GFX.
