Precision Touchpad on Acer not recognized in Trusty?

Asked by 殷啟聰 | Kai-Chung Yan

Precision Touchpad seems to be a new type of its kind and is only fully supported in Windows 8. Acer Aspire E5-551G-T87N is equipped with a Precision Touchpad, however it's not recognized by my Ubuntu GNOME.

Executing xinput I've got:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Logitech USB Optical Mouse id=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ HD WebCam id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=15 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Acer WMI hotkeys

Obviously it detected the touchpad, but could not recognize it, for there's a third unnamed device under Virtuak Core Pointer. I don't think Ununtu so far has not supported Precision Touchpad.

Well with the latest kernel installed, the touchpad works.
