Sony Vaio VGN cs21s touchpad/mouse trouble on 12.04

Asked by Dávur Eyðunsson

Tried clean 12.04 install on a Sony Vaio VGN CS21S. Installed as intended, although the physical volume control slider was not detected - but I can live with that.

But the touchpad/mouse buttons behave strangely. Launching any program works but disables the left button right away and the only way to get it back is rightclicking the System button (or whatsthename of the button on top right). Then leftclick works for one more click and BUM! gone again.
Rightclick on the empty desktop does this too - I can't leftclick any item in the list. Hitting ESC gets it back.

Clean install of 10.04 works like a charm.

What to do?

'Clean install of 10.04 works like a charm.'

Should add: Distribution upgrade to 12.04 doesn't help - same problem.

Add the boot option:

i8024.nopnp

and it should be ok. It is often needed by Sony Vaios

Can you help with this problem?
